The Harrow Writers' Circle summer party was held in the garden of Barbara (writer Josie) with food and drink provided by guests. We had savoury snacks including samosas as well as strawberries and cream, fruit salad, meringues and ice cream in silver and gold coloured paper cones. Plus wine and chocolates.
Former President, Oscar, author, with Julia Underwood, writer.
Songs
Entertainment consisted of two contrasting singers. The first sang Indian songs including 'yodelling'. The second sang English, Scottish, Welsh, Irish and American songs.
We discussed the forthcoming history of Harrow Writers' Circle which I am writing. Oscar said it must be entertaining. Julia said, "We once had a man who wrote some fruity stuff!"
Other local writing groups around the area included one which met at Harrow Library, attended by a former president, Simon, and myself (Angela Lansbury). I was delighted when one of my short plays was published in an anthology of monologues. I had hoped to be able to take it into schools. However, the first piece contained several four letter words.
In addition to members of the writer's circle, we invited writer's partners and authors who had been featured at meetings, for example Beatrice Holloway.
I remembered Beatrice had talked to us at Harrow Arts Centre, a shared evening with a male author. She recalled that she had talked with another writer whose book was on science fiction. She said, "It must have been about 2013, because my husband was alive." She had spoken to us about her book The Man From The North East. She has since published another book.
Beatrice and I discovered to our delight that we would both be attending the same writer's holiday later in the year.
